General

The oyster mushroom (Pleurotus ostreatus) is one of the most popular edible mushrooms worldwide, prized for its pleasantly mild, slightly nutty flavor and delicate texture. Originally from temperate to subtropical regions, it is known for its vigorous growth and culinary versatility. This product contains oyster mushroom mycelium, ideally suited for easily cultivating your own fresh mushrooms.

Shelf life

The supplied oyster mushroom mycelium can be stored in the refrigerator (2–6 °C) for approximately 2–4 weeks. Until use, it should always be stored in a cool, dry place, protected from light.

Fruiting

Once the substrate is completely colonized, the mycelium begins to form fruiting bodies under suitable conditions. The first oyster mushrooms can be harvested as early as 7–14 days after fruiting begins. High humidity and good ventilation promote a bountiful mushroom harvest.

Fertilization temperature

The optimal temperature for fruiting is between 15 and 20 °C. Oyster mushrooms can also fruit at slightly lower temperatures, which makes them particularly versatile.

Mycel

The oyster mushroom mycelium forms a dense, white network of threads that quickly and reliably colonizes substrates such as straw, sawdust, straw pellets, or even coffee grounds. It grows vigorously and is known for its robustness.

Reproduction temperature

A temperature between 20 and 26 °C is recommended for the mycelium to colonize the substrate. Within this range, the mycelium multiplies particularly vigorously and covers the substrate evenly.

Shipping information

Mycel is shipped exclusively from Monday to Wednesday to ensure maximum freshness and quality upon arrival.

Special features / tips

Oyster mushrooms are particularly beginner-friendly and tolerant of different substrates. For optimal growth, the substrate should be moist but not wet. High humidity is important during fruiting; waterlogging or dryness should be avoided. Freshly harvested oyster mushrooms taste best and are ideal for frying, grilling, or as an addition to soups.
