General information about Reishi / Glossy Ganoderma lucidum

The Reishi mushroom (Ganoderma lucidum), also known as Ganoderma lucidum or Ling Zhi, is a traditional medicinal and vital mushroom highly valued, especially in Asian medicine. Its characteristic features are its reddish-brown, lacquer-like, glossy cap and its tough, woody flesh. The mushroom develops a bitter, aromatic flavor and is traditionally used as a tea, powder, or extract. This product contains high-quality Reishi mycelium for easy cultivation of this exceptional mushroom at home.

Shelf life

The mycelium remains viable for approximately 2–4 weeks in the refrigerator (2–6 °C). It should always be stored in a cool, dry place, protected from light, until use.

Fruiting

Once the substrate is completely colonized, the mycelium begins to develop the characteristic, glossy fruiting bodies under optimal conditions. Fruiting usually starts 3–8 weeks after initiation of fruiting. High humidity and a regular supply of fresh air are crucial for a high yield.

Fertilization temperature

The ideal temperature for fruiting body formation is between 22 and 28 °C. Within this range, the Ganoderma lucidum forms strong, shiny caps.

Mycel

The supplied mycelium exhibits white, thread-like growth with strong vigor. It preferentially colonizes hardwood substrates such as beech or oak, but also enriched sawdust.

Reproduction temperature

Temperatures of 24 to 28 °C are optimal for colonization of the substrate. Within this range, the mycelium grows particularly quickly and vigorously.

Shipping information

Mycel is shipped exclusively from Monday to Wednesday to ensure maximum freshness and quality upon arrival.

Special features / tips Reishi

The glossy polypore thrives best on moistened hardwood substrates. High humidity (85–95%) should be maintained during fruiting. Good air circulation promotes the formation of the characteristic glossy caps. Because the fruiting bodies are very tough, they are usually not eaten directly, but rather used to make tea or for processing into powders and extracts. Briefly water the substrate between harvests to encourage further fruiting.
