General information about the king oyster mushroom
The king oyster mushroom (Pleurotus eryngii), also known as the king oyster mushroom, is considered one of the finest and most popular edible mushrooms. Its thick, fleshy stem and delicate, aromatic mushroom flavor with a subtle herbal scent are characteristic. Originally from the Mediterranean region, the king oyster mushroom is now cultivated worldwide. With our king oyster mushroom mycelium, you can easily and successfully grow this gourmet mushroom at home.
Shelf life
The mycelium remains fresh and viable for approximately 2–4 weeks when stored in the refrigerator (2–6 °C). It should always be stored in a cool, dry, and dark place until use.
Fruiting
Once the substrate is completely colonized, fruiting begins under optimal conditions. The first mushroom fruiting bodies usually appear 2–3 weeks after fruiting is initiated. High humidity and fresh air promote the development of robust, fleshy king oyster mushrooms.
Fertilization temperature
The recommended temperature for fruiting body formation is between 14 and 20 °C. Within this range, particularly compact, aromatic mushrooms develop.
Mycel
The supplied king oyster mushroom mycelium exhibits a white, vigorously growing network of threads and is particularly suitable for straw, sawdust, straw pellets, or special mushroom growing substrates. It impresses with its vitality and reliable substrate colonization.
Reproduction temperature
Temperatures between 22 and 26 °C are optimal for the mycelium to colonize the substrate. Within this range, the mycelium spreads quickly and evenly.
Shipping information
Mycel is shipped exclusively from Monday to Wednesday to ensure maximum freshness and quality upon arrival.
Special features / tips
King oyster mushrooms prefer nutrient-rich substrates and develop particularly fleshy fruiting bodies when combined with high humidity and good ventilation. After fruiting, the surface of the substrate should be kept evenly moist, but not wet. For best quality, the mushrooms should be harvested while the cap margin is still slightly rolled inwards. They are excellent for frying, grilling, or as a meat substitute.
