General

The lung oyster mushroom (Pleurotus pulmonarius) is a close relative of the oyster mushroom and is distinguished by its particularly tender flesh, mild and aromatic flavor, and very rapid growth. It forms light, greyish-white to cream-colored caps and is significantly more heat-tolerant than the classic oyster mushroom.
With this product you receive high-quality Pleurotus pulmonarius mycelium for cultivating your own tasty edible mushrooms at home.

Shelf life

The supplied mycelium can be stored for approximately 2–4 weeks in the refrigerator (2–6 °C). Until use, it should always be stored in a cool, dry place, protected from direct light.

Fruiting

Once the substrate is completely colonized, the lung oyster mushroom begins fruiting under suitable conditions. The first mushrooms often appear as early as 7–14 days after fruiting begins. High humidity and regular ventilation promote a consistent and bountiful harvest.

Fertilization temperature

The optimal temperature for fruiting body formation is between 18 and 24 °C. Due to its heat tolerance, the lung oyster mushroom is particularly well suited for summer cultivation.

Mycel

The Pleurotus pulmonarius mycelium forms a dense, robust, white network of threads and grows extremely vigorously. It colonizes substrates such as straw, straw pellets, sawdust, or coffee grounds quickly and reliably.

Reproduction temperature

Temperatures between 22 and 28 °C are ideal for colonizing the substrate. Within this range, the mycelium grows particularly quickly and evenly.

Special features / tips

The lung oyster mushroom is considered very beginner-friendly and tolerates minor fluctuations in temperature and humidity. It is particularly well-suited for cultivation on straw or straw pellets. During fruiting, sufficient fresh air should be ensured to encourage long, well-formed stems. For best quality, an early harvest is recommended, as the mushrooms are then especially tender and aromatic.
