General

Nameko ( Pholiota nameko ) is a traditional edible mushroom in Japanese cuisine. Its small, honey-brown caps with a slightly glossy, slimy surface when moist are characteristic. Nameko has a mild, slightly nutty, and pleasantly aromatic flavor – it is especially popular in soups, stir-fries, and Asian dishes.
This product is vital Nameko mycelium for growing your own mushrooms.

Shelf life

The mycelium supplied is fresh and active. It can be stored for several weeks in the refrigerator at 2–5 °C . For best results, we recommend using it as soon as possible after receipt. Protect from drying out, heat, and direct sunlight.

Fruiting

Once the substrate is completely colonized, the Nameko mycelium begins to produce fruiting bodies under suitable conditions. Nameko grows in dense clusters with many small caps. Harvesting takes place when the caps are well-developed but still young and glossy.

Fertilization temperature

The optimal temperature for fruit body formation is between 10 and 18 °C .

Mycel

The Nameko mycelium is robust, white to cream-colored, and colonizes the substrate evenly. It is considered vigorous but requires some patience during the colonization phase.

Reproduction temperature

The ideal temperature for substrate colonization is between 22 and 26 °C .

Mycel is shipped exclusively from Monday to Wednesday to ensure the highest freshness and quality upon arrival.

Special features / tips

Nameko prefers hardwood substrates, especially beech or oak. High humidity is crucial for the characteristic glossy cap surface. For optimal results, fruiting at relatively cool temperatures with good air circulation is recommended.
